In the modern industries of the 21st century, the pressure of competition and delivery deadlines is one of the main reasons for constantly finding better ways to continuously improve the way we work. Among the most well-known approaches that deal with this issue is the Six Sigma. In this paper, an overview of this concept is given, including its historical development, methodology, terminology, and tools. The advantages and potential areas of application are analyzed, and the effect of its systematic implementation in a real industrial environment is explained through various examples. Finally, a specific example of Six Sigma indicators being transformed into two specific tobacco industry related quality indexes is given, and results of a six-month Six Sigma project in Kanfanar cigarette factory related to one of the components affecting total score measured by those indexes are provided.
